Brain-dead pregnant woman's husband names fetus- Sarah Klein 4th Period

A pregnant, brain-dead Texas woman who was taken off life support over the weekend by her husband, who gave the name Nicole to what would have been their second child before his wife was removed from machines.
Doctors at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth indicated to Munoz that the fetus would probably have been a girl, though  the fetus was said to have suffered from deformation of the lower body that made it impossible to determine a gender.

Both Munoz's attorneys and the hospital, which initially refused to disconnect Marlise Munoz, agreed the fetus could not have been born alive after 23 weeks of pregnancy.
The fetus was not delivered when the hospital complied Sunday with a judge's order to pull Mrs. Munoz from life support. She was declared brain-dead in November, but was kept on machines for the sake of the fetus and in accordance with Texas law.
I think it is wrong that Texas law keeps a brain-dead woman on life support at any stage of pregnancy. It would be one thing if the law applied to pregnancies near termination, but really, a decision like that should be left up to the family.

  1. I did my current event on whether she should be taken off life support last week. I think it is right that they decided to let her rest in peace after months on life support.
