Veronica Jones: Texas judge: Remove brain-dead woman from ventilator, other machines

Friday, January 24th: a Texas judge ruled in favor of the Munoz family in the case regarding his wife being kept alive despite having been legally brain dead since November 28th. If you haven't already heard of this case, allow me to catch you up. On November 26th at around 2 A.M. Erick Munoz found his wife, Marlise, collapsed on the kitchen floor. He rushed her to the hospital and two days later she was considered to be brain dead. Mr. Munoz told the Hospital that his wife had told him previously that if something like this were to happen to her, she would like to let go. However, The Hospital refused because Marlise was pregnant. The Munoz family has been fighting ever since to get her taken off life support. The baby has already been declared to have suffered from the lack of oxygen and the family have been fighting tooth and nail to follow Marlise's wishes.

I have to say that I am glad the judge made this decision. Forcing a dead woman's body to continue working in order to carry a baby- healthy or not- shows a disgustingly low amount of respect for the women herself. Is it sad that the child is going to die? Yes. But Is it fair to not only go against the wishes of the family but also that of the dead woman's wishes in order to keep alive one child? No.

  1. what sickens me about things like this is that it's a clear sign of how much they don't care about the woman's body or feelings and that's why i'm pro-choice. like you said, it's incredibly sad that they'll be losing the baby, but it probably isn't even healthy at this point. i mean, the woman is basically dead and they've just been forcing her body to keep going. how could a healthy life develop in an environment like that?
