Surprised Guest by Valerie Coahuilas

Thirteen year old middle schooler, Derrick Jenkins got a very surprising visit at his school basketball game. Derrick's mother, Lt. Col. Cotina Jenkins-Sellers, was standing right behind him. Jenkins-Sellers wanted to surprise her son and thought what better way to do so than to arrive at his Basketball game when he thought his mother was arriving in February 1st. It had been about 8 months since Jenkins-Sellers, a squadron commander in Kuwait, had last seen her son. She returned home to San Antonio Jan. 16 and immediately went to Derrick's basketball game. At the game Derrick misses his his free throw, his mother, standing behind him, tells him "That's alright, Derrick". He immediately turns around and is overwhelmed with joy after seeing his mother for the first time in months.

  1. This is so great, I very grateful for all the people in the armed forces that not only sacrifice their lives, but theirs lifestyles so that we can live in freedom.
