Harvesting Organs - Amber Ward P5

Summary: In countries like Haiti, Costa Rica, and the United States children are being targeted for their organs. These organs are acquired by manipulating the poor into selling themselves, cultivating freshly dead corpses, and even by murder, and then they are sold to rich buyers, mostly in Israel. Not only are the targets, poor and usually children, but they are almost always Hispanic or Black. The Costa Rican government has made a sufficient effort to stop the illegal organ trafficking by breaking up a suspected organ trafficking ring and arresting a Costa Rican physician who is said to be in cahoots with the Israeli doctors and patients who receive these stolen organs. But there is still a problem in all three countries and possibly even more countries.

Analysis: When I first read this story it made me a little nauseous... Just the thought that there are actually people out there who are willing to excavate people, especially those who are still living stirs my soul. It raises the question of whether one life is more important than any other; because the rich organ recipients in Israel essentially decide to buy someone else's life to save their own, which isn't right. The amount of money someone has shouldn't be able to make their life more or less important than anyone else's.

No matter what cost a organ is, if it came from a living body it is very wrong. This disgusted me after reading it.

  4. Byron otis-how horrifying. That someone could murder a child for money is so repulsive to me, I can't understand. I hope these people go to jail.

  5. It's scary that people actually think it's okay to do this and get away with it.

  6. The fact that there are people willing to kill someone in order to make some money going towards saving another person in a foreign country is maddening.
