"Police: Maryland Mom Kills 2 of Her Children During Attempted Exorcism" - Camille Farrar

            Zakieya L. Avery, age 28, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder. A second woman was also charged in the murders; authorities believe she is unrelated to the family. Avery stabbed and killed her 1-year-old son and her 2-year-old daughter. Her other two children, aged 5 and 8, were put in the hospital because of their stab wounds. Authorities believe the stabbings were part of an exorcism. The children were found on Friday morning after a neighbor called 911 because of suspicious behavior and a knife outside of the car. After the call, child protective services were supposed to check on the Avery family, but it is not known whether they did. Both women are currently being held.

            This article was heartbreaking. I cannot imagine being in a situation similar to this one. There is not sufficient evidence to say for sure that this was an attempted exorcism, so anything Avery says related to her motives in this will almost surely be published. I hope the two children in the hospital will make full recoveries and will find loving homes. My heart goes out to the four children that were involved in this.
