Colorado students on fire Peyton Wilson 5th period

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-25917011

Apparently a student at Standley Lake High School set himself on fire in a suspected attempt to end his own life. Not necessarily the most common or popular way to go about suicide nowadays. The student was rushed to the hospital and reported to be in critical condition.

No other students were reported to be injured, but one adult who tried to put the fire out does have minor injuries. I don't know if the other adult mentioned in the article is the same as the aforementioned,  but they suffered abrasions from breaking the class to get the fire extinguisher. This wasn't a threat or put any other students in intentional danger.

Response:
I wonder how this guy thought the way out should have been through fire. I mean, you always hear about gunshot wounds and overdosing on pain killers (I am not generalizing the issue of suicide. It is one of the saddest and most depressing things in the world), but rarely do you hear about a 16 year old boy setting himself on fire at 7 in the morning in the cafeteria.  Whether it even was a suicide attempt, it's still a strange thing to do in front of a group of people if you are not a trained professional or in the circus.

That's such an unusual way of attempted suicide. Nevertheless, it's sad that the student wanted to end his/her life at all. I hope he/she survives and gets counseling.

  2. This sounds more like a plea for help/revenge suicide to me. Since we don't know this kid's history, it's possible it was meant to terrorize possible past/present bullies and what better way than to go up in flame in front of them? (sarcasm btw.)
