Wage Hike Affects "Absolutely No One" - Lizy Rutherford, 4th pd

Or so says House Speaker John Boehner. He denounced Obama's executive order to raise the minimum wage to $10.10. He said Tuesday morning, "...Somebody might want to ask the White House, ‘well how many people is this going to affect?’ Because I suspect it affects absolutely no one.” He then argued that it would deeply hurt minority communities because "When you raise the price of employment, guess what? You get less of it."

Two things:

1) You are a well paid politician. You get only 100 working days per year. You also have health insurance and perks for the rest of your life, even when you retire. You will be paid the rest of your life, and you have a problem with raising minimum wage.

2) You're white. You've never had the problems other minorities face because of the color of your skin/stereotypes that go with it. You've never lost job opportunities based on discrimination from possible employers. Even though you're so privileged (and it prevents you from seeing that you are), you have a problem with raising minimum wage.

Sit down.

  1. I do not like John Boehner, so let me preface it by saying that. However, he does hold a valid point. Companies are in it to make money. If they are forced to pay their employees more, there is a very decent sized chance that they will cut how many employees they have in order to save money for themselves. Otherwise I agree with upping minimum wage.
