Ashley Barnes 2nd: Vaccine waiting to be approved

A serious disease has been going around in California. The disease is called Meningococcal disease, and it is a bacterial infection that causes bloodstream problems and meningitis. So far there have been eight known victims. The disease is considered deadly; already one student had to amputate his legs due to bloodstream problems. There is a vaccine available, however this vaccine has not yet been approved in the U.S. It has, however, been approved in Europe, Canada, and Australia. This disease is hard to identify as something very serious, because it has very similar flu-like symptoms. Doctors have said that approval will take time, but that it is in process.

I understand that approval for the vaccine can't be immediate. However, it is very concerning that people are getting sick from something that could kill them, when a vaccine has already been established. Hopefully the process speeds up and it is quickly approved, and quickly distributed.

This is scary. To think that you might acquire this disease and have no solution.
