This report will include two short opinions; one before watching the CNN Video, and one after. Compilation of your own reactions before and after seeing the video would be interesting to read. Different people=different perspectives.
Before watching the video:
It appears that successful actress and reality television star Tamera Mowry has been called an inflammatory term. This situation already seems to be ignorant and infuriating. Interracial marriage has become somewhat of a norm in American society, but there will obviously be those who are too ignorant to respect it. You do not have to accept it. Just quietly refuse to accept it by yourself and without the company of others.

After watching the video:
...the reporter said the woman's name wrong. Honestly, this shouldn't even be an issue anymore. No comment.
The outdated sort of hatred that Tamera is getting, as well as others in interracial marriages are getting, is astonishing. Of course the "keyboard thugs", (this term is, in my opinion, unprofessional of one of the reporters in the video to use) of the world are going to bully others. We have come a long way, but there is a long way to go.
Anecdote:
I watched a movie with my mother today, called, "Something New". It was about a black woman, Kenya, who fell for a white man, but had trouble coming to terms with it. Her peers and parents, as well as complete strangers seemed to have a problem with it. Brian, the white man, didn't understand why he was continuously compared to black men while in the relationship. The obvious reason was the close-mindedness and unfamiliarity of everyone, including the woman, with interracial love.
Spoiler: In the end, they lived happily ever after. Because it doesn't matter what race you are. Love matters. And it seems like it'll take a while for everyone to come to that conclusion.
I agree that it shouldn't be an issue at all. We're living in a different time and there is still some controversy over interracial couples. However, it seems that people are improving.

ReplyDeleteI saw this video, and honestly it really added to my anger with racism. It's funny that we're in a "post-racial society" but the first thing we notice in a relationship is the race of the people. The people of the world just constantly make me so disappointed.
