Mars rover Opportunity Has been exploring and taking pictures of the surface of Mars for more than 3540 days in Mars time. He roves the surface taking panoramic shots of the area and taking samples of the surface if needed. Twelve days after taking a picture of one area, it returned, baffling scientists by showing a rock where one had not previously been. It was roughly the size and shape of a doughnut with a dark red low spot in the middle. The Opportunity is now studying the rock, taking samples and measurements and pictures. His instruments have shown that the red part is nothing they've ever encountered before. This has caused much excitement and arguing on the team of scientists.
