Over 200 bottlenose dolphins have been help captive in a Japanese cove. They have been kept there for 3 nights without food or rest and sadly await to be slaughtered for meat. A lot of dolphins have died and been injured due to attempts at escaping. 25 dolphins were sold into captivity on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. The Japanese are defending their practice by saying it is no different than slaughtering other animals for their meat. "Environmental activists warn that dolphin meat, also sold for consumption in Japan, contains dangerously high levels of mercury and other toxins." This could both be bad for the people consuming the meat and for the water where the dolphins are slaughtered.
I feel like this is so cruel to keep 200+ dolphins cooped up in a small space awaiting their death. Dolphins are probably the nicest animals and I don't see how they can be treated like this. For Japan to justify this by saying that its just like slaughtering any other animal for meat makes me cringe a little. I hope that this doesn't continue.
