A hot topic in America has been the use of medicinal marijuana for a long time. Some people highly approve of this form of treatment, which has proved to be effective in taking away some of the discomforts of healing; Other people vehemently disapprove of the treatment and don't believe marijuana should be even thought about when it comes to medicine. Whether or not you think its wrong, it didn't stop a mother from allowing her three year old child to use medicinal marijuana. Sierra Riddle was a mother in Utah, whose son, Landon, was diagnosed with ALL, a form of cancer. Landon was not expected to survive, but was still put in multiple chemotherapy sessions, and given treatment. The treatments made him miserable, and he was put on drugs that literally drove him to pull his hair out. The mother and grandmother of Landon tried to seek options of what to do with Landon, making people began suggesting he try some medicinal marijuana. Sierra was skeptical, as she is a recovering drug addict. After much debating, she moved to Colorado, got Landon a medicinal marijuana card, and he began his treatments. Since starting the treatment of marijuana, Landon has improved dramatically, and his red and white blood cell count improved dramatically. Sierra stopped taking him to chemotherapy as the marijuana proved to be more effective. The doctor was horrified by this, and told if she refused proper Chemo, she would report her. Sierra stood by her decision, got a lawyer, and was prepared to fight. Sierra will continue to fight for her son, and is trying to switch doctors, ones who will work with her. Landon is still being monitored, and has improved ridiculously.
I just don't underfreakinstand why people try to intrude on people's lives. This boy was SUFFERING while going through chemotherapy, he even experienced organ failure while on these heavy doses of doctor prescribed drugs. This mother only wants what is best for her child, and when she found that something that brought her child back to life, everyone wants to get into her business and try to remove Landon from her. If you don't like weed, cool. If you do like weed, cool, but don't try to turn medicinal marijuana into something bad, when it is clearly helping this child get through the days. I don't understand why this is so taboo, why helping a child heal is so bad. This is why I love America though, we are able to argue about these things, and we have access to things such as medicinal marijuana. No matter what, I hope little Landon continues his smoke sessions (kidding) and continues to improve his health, and hopefully is cancer free. I think his mother is great for doing whatever she can to keep her child alive and well.

ReplyDeleteKelsey, I agree with you 100%! While there (of course) will continue to be heated disagreements over the recreational use of marijuana, medical marijuana is a PROVEN effective medicine. Kudos to the mother of little Landon for giving her child the best help. I hope he continues to get better.
I agree people need to stay out of their business and let them do what they feel they need to do- Nia Edwards 4 th period
