The police in Sochi have been urgently searching for a female suicide bomber who they believe may have already made it through the security set up for the Olympic Games. Flyers that had descriptions of the 22 year old have already been hung up in nearby airports and over the city. The US Olympic Committee has stated that the safety of the US team is their top priority. They are also working to make sure that Americans traveling to Sochi to view the games are safe too. The wanted woman has been identified as Ruzanna Ibragimova. She is the widow of a militant who was apparently killed in Dagestan last year during a shoot-out with police. Reportedly, she is affiliated with the Caucasus Emirate, the terror group led by Doku Umarov which has threatened attacks against the Winter Games in Sochi. Because she has been suspected to have gotten through the security ring at the games, people are worried that Russia's security isn't as strong as it is needed to be. It is also very uncommon for female suicide bombers to work alone.

Indeed, a lone female suicide bomber is a rare occurrence, much less a female bomber. Perhaps she's going to avenge her militant husband's death?
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of worried about Russia's olympics in Sochi. This is a very unfortunate event, and it's shocking that a terrorist working alone made it through such security.
