After a long search for five weeks, Idaho authorities have finally discovered the remains of a small plane that disappeared in December of 2013. According to Lt. Dan Smith of the Valley County Sheriff's Office, there were no survivors, or bodies left in the crash.

Dale Smith, founder of SerialTek, went missing along with this plane. SerialTek is a company that develops software and hardware data storage tools. Smith had left Baker City, Oregon with three of his family members, while his wife and daughter chose to stay behind. The family was flying a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza to Montana, until they started to have engine troubles 9,000 feet over central Idaho.

Several days after the plane crashed, search parties located a weak signal from from an emergency locator transmitter. The teams swarmed to the south of Johnson Creek, where they believed the wreckage was located. It's a tragedy that these folks came upon this disaster and I am sending my prayers in the direction of the family members and their friends.

  1. What a sad story. It's especially sad to me that no bodies were recovered, so none of the passengers could be properly laid to rest. It's also troubling the number of celebrities and people who have died in small plane crashes such as this one.
