The United States claims that the bombing of a hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan was a mistake, it was meant for Taliban insurgents. The bomb took at least 22 lives of hospital workers and patients. The Medecins Sans Frontieres(MSF) called this a war crime and need for an international committee to investigate. "Condolence payments" are available for the victims and their families. President Obama has apologized to the MSF president and the Afghan leader, and the Pentagon will being providing the compensations for the victims along with payments to repair the hospital. Unaccounted victims are still being searched for among the wreckage.
This incident reminds me of the Colonists clearing out of the Native Americans. Though this was claimed as unintentional whereas the Americans meant to push the natives out of their sacred land. Both incidents threatened groups of people in their home countries. This bombing like many other terrible events could have been fully avoided. Not be an expert in military I cannot be so sure. The U.S. government could have done much more research on this facility as to not completely tear it up and maybe realize "Oh hey, that's a hospital". In spite of this horrific mistake, with hope our relationship with Afghanistan will not worsen.

Man... this leaves me speechless. It was a mistake? How can bombing an entire hospital be a mistake by the U.S. government? So they meant to bomb and kill a certain group of people (without counting the casualties of regular civilians), but instead messed up and bombed some already injured some perfectly healthy, innocent civilians? Just speechless.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely saddening as making this mistake has cost the lives of at least 22 innocent people!! Hopefully the US can handle the situation to the best of their abilities and realize the importance of being properly prepared, especially when people's lives are at risk! -Nicole Chatham 6th period
