Drone Close Calls Spur Government to Require Registration Caroline North 9th period

Since last year, the number of drone spottings has nearly doubled, and even more worrisome, close calls and incidents creating safety risks due to drones continues to increase each month. Officials announced Monday that the federal government will start requiring drones to be registered in order to promote safety.  "Registration will increase pressure on drone operators to fly responsibly."  The FAA wants to avoid serious incidents, for example drones getting sucked into a jet engine and causing a dangerous malfunction.  It is illegal to fly in certain places such as near airports.  However, if a drone is registered, the FAA will be able to identify who that drone belongs to and punish them accordingly.

The drone registration policy helps ensure the safety of U.S. citizens and prevents accidents from occurring.  If drones are spotted in illegal areas, the FFA will have the ability to recognize who that drone belongs to and inflict repercussions.  I support the idea of registering drones because it promotes safety and freak accidents from certain people breaking certain rules.  This rule can be associated with U.S. history because as technology continues to evolve, develop, and become easily accessible to everyone, certain rules and regulations need to be put in place to ensure that this technology is used safely and does not endanger the lives of other people.
