U.S. Raids ISIS by Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex

On Thursday October 22, 2015 U.S., Kurdish, and Iraqi soldiers raided an ISIS controlled prison in Huwija, Iraq freeing 70 hostages. The hostages were said to be soon faced with imminent mass execution. The rescue of the hostage resulted in the death of Master Sgt. Joshua L. Wheeler. His death has concerned citizens in the U.S. involvement in the fight against ISIS. Many questioned President Obama's promise to keep soldiers from combat in Iraq. The Pentagon spokesperson claimed that the forces were only aiding the Kurdish soldiers. Master Sgt. Wheeler was the first U.S. soldier to die in combat since 2011. Even though the rescue resulted in the death of an American it also allowed the U.S. to gain intelligence on ISIS. Some hostages informed the U.S. that ISIS planned on killing them after their morning prayers.

I think that the raid was helpful to U.S. intelligence, even though it resulted in the death of a Master Sgt. It's understandable that people would questions President Obama's promise to keep American soldiers out of combat but it think that this was something that benefited  intelligence greatly.

  1. Bernadette Negrete: I don't understand the reason why Obama believes taking men out of the military will solve anything. They went over seas for a pointless war and started more than was originally there, And know they arnt going to finish what they started
