"Officers Seen As Dangerous Not Protective" -Aleah Washington 1st period

Another viral video has caught the attention of many people because once again there are crooked cops. An African American student was aggressively arrested by a white male cop in a classroom. The video shows she is not arguing or causing a commotion but is violently thrown to the ground in her desk and later dragged across the room. This seems like history is repeating itself because bad officers are becoming more of a threat to the black community like in the Civil Rights Movement. They are not equally being treated and don't feel safe. The only differences is wrongful doing officers are paying the price and have to face an angry community that can actually do something.

This topic is important because it is notifying people to be more careful. It reminds everyone that racial violence is still here and more people need to speak out about it. As a fellow African American student, I feel I should avoid certain areas because crooked people can cause harm to me like in the 1960s. Certain things shouldn't be allowed to happen but at least you can stand up for yourself.

  1. I agree, I find it terrible that several decades after the Civil Rights Movement (was it really that short a time ago? Crazy, isn't it?) we still see such violent acts of racism today! All we can hope is that eventually the voices of those silenced will rise up in the voices of those who refuse to remain oppressed any longer, and we will come together to recognize one another as equal.
