Brooks Norton 4th Period

This past week Gloria Steinem, a feminist who helped found the magazine Ms. was interviewed on  NPR. One of the things that was discussed in the interview was an abortion that she attempted years before she could safely and legal have one preformed. She talks about how scary that was for her and how important she thinks it is for women who have been in this position to talk about their experiences.
This is another in a long set of battles for women's rights. One of the problems seen here is that the people discussing this issue is men. This is very similar to the way that many women's issues have unfortunately been dealt with in the past. When the country was founded women didn't have the right to vote, meaning that they didn't have any say in laws that would affect them. Hopefully as we continue to deal with this issue women's voices will be heard more, similarly to the way that women gained the right to vote.
