Disabled Man Crawls Off Plane- Téa Devereaux

Summary: Today on a plane a man had to crawl off the plane because the airlines took way too long to get him a wheelchair. The airlines says that it was a mistake and that he was to receive one but they accidentally cancelled the request for one and by the time their request was fulfilled, it was already too late. When the man began to crawl off the plane, the flight attendants just stared. Eventually, one of the flight attendants felt bad enough to report it and the man was called the next day. He said that this has happened multiple times from other flying companies but none have ever actually apologized. He was also offered money which he took.

Analysis: This story makes me feel very badly for the disabled man. He never received the support and help that he needed or a proper explanation of why his needs weren't fulfilled because people messed up the request. Then, those said people, just stared when he was a time of need. This story was sickening for me to read. The only thing that reassured that not all of humanity is heartless was that one of the flight attendants reported him.

  1. That's terrible, I can't believe people just watched him. People should be more consciously aware of disabled people and help them if they need it.

  2. Bernadette Negrete: The problem with this is not that the wheel chair was forgotten, its that this man had to crawl out the plane, without any help. You can apologize for forgetting the wheelchair but you cant apologize for not helping.

  3. This type of story shows just how inconsiderate people can be. I understand the mishap involving the wheelchair, but a man crawling out of a plane is obviously in need of assistance.

  4. I agree with Bernadette's point. Although the requested wheelchair wasn't coming, the flight attendants still could have helped the man off the plane. The fact that this isn't the only time this has happened and that it's the first time he got an apology for it is embarrassing.
