Plastic trees could defend against global warming by Vern Blossfeld

Summary: We as humans are constantly emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which stays there and warms the planet. Climate change is happening, and our efforts to get people to pollute less haven't been working as efficiently as we'd hoped. But scientists may have developed another way to fight this problem. What if we got the CO2 out've the air, and put it somewhere else? Plants do this all the time, inhaling carbon dioxide and pushing out oxygen. Nature naturally sucks up the carbon dioxide, in what scientists call carbon sinks. But carbon sinks can't keep up with the rate at which humans are emitting carbon dioxide, and so scientists around the world have come up with this solution: creating their own carbon sinks. For instance, in Arizona State University, they're making artificial trees from resin, and Canadians have created fans that have special absorbent liquid, which takes CO2 and turns it into salt. None of these new inventions are ready for mass distribution yet; they're too costly, hard to make, etc.
Analysis: It's amazing what solutions we can come up with to climate problems such as global warming! Throughout history many problems such as this have arose that we were able to overcome. Hopefully a solution is also made in the area of mass distribution so that these new solutions can be put to the test.
