Kenley Turner 3rd period- Students violent arrest caught on video; officer under investigation

Summery: In South Carolina resource officer is caught on video violently removing a student from her desk. The officer asks her to get up twice before violently throwing her onto the floor. The Super Intendent of Richland ISD said that "Safety is the school's top priority", so the officer is now under investigation. The officer has been asked not to return to school durring the investigation. There were no injuries reported.

Analysis: This is just another example of police brutality. Many police officers shown in the media do not know when it is ok to use violent force. There have not been several details released, but I do not think that the officer's life was in danger, therefore, I do not think it was ok for him to violently throw that rather petite high school girl onto the ground. Many authoritative figures throughout history have been proven to just want control over something, so they go overboard on it. If details later come out that the girl had a knife, gun, or some other concealed weapon, then I will agree with the officer's actions. But until then, I firmly disagree. If it comes out later that this was about race, because the victim is black, then I will extremely firmly disagree.

  1. This reminds me of American Revolution events such as the Boston Massacre where the soldiers of Britain, aka the police of the colonies, used brutal force against their subjects and found a revolution on their hands. While this is not as severe of a case, if the police do not tread more carefully they may find themselves a rebellion of their own. Now is about the time we need a really rich person to become a real-life Batman with all of this police corruption and brutality brewing about. This is especially hard for me to admit due to the extensive service my family has given to the police force.
