Hurricane Patricia

Hurricane Patricia, the strongest Hurrican at sea, aggressively hit the coast of Mexico leading officials to think it may be the most dangerous storm in history. Thousands were evacuated near Cuixmala in southwestern Mexico before the Category 5 storm hit Friday evening. More than 1,200 shelters were set up. Its strong winds at 165 mph uprooted trees, toppled powerlines, and unleashed mudslides. Right when everyone thought Patricia was going to be a big catastrophe, the storm weakened overland to a tropical depression after landing on the Pacific Coast as the most powerful storms on record without causing major damage or casualties. Hurricane Patricia weakened as it entered the mountainous terrain of Mexico with winds at 35mph. This relates to history because Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst disasters in history. The only difference is that it caused more casualties and the Bush administration was judged for its insufficient response to the emergency.

Analysis
It's surprising that such a strong storm did little damage. I can also imagine how frightening the whole experience was for the people who witness this storm. However, it is good that officials were also well prepared and evacuated everyone.

  1. Well, considering how large it was, I am glad it did not do a lot of damage
