Dispute between Republican Candidates -Nicole Chatham 6th period

The article that I read this week discussed the current presidential campaign and two Republican candidates: Jeb Bush and Donald Trump. The presidential campaign has continued to be the topic of many conversations lately as several problems and opinions are being brought into the spotlight of U.S. news. In a recent interview with Bloomberg TV, Donald Trump noted how the September 11th terror attacks happened during the presidency of George Bush. Trump's 9/11 comments received much backlash from the GOP and even caused Jeb Bush, George's younger brother, to come to his defense in a twitter dispute with Donald Trump. Overall, Jeb Bush supported his brother by calling Trump pathetic, and said how George Bush kept the U.S. people safe during that time. Donald Trump in return called Jeb pathetic for thinking that the U.S. people were kept safe and said that the U.S. needs more energy and spirit than Jeb can provide.

Analysis- This article is interesting to me as it shows how the presidential campaign is heating up between two candidates both representing the Republican party. I am also intrigued with how prominent social media is today and how it is even used as an outlet for small feuds between presidential candidates. I can relate this article back in U.S. history to the election of 1828 surrounding John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. Similar to this article, the two temporarily united Republicans were split into two camps during the election. In an effort to gain the support of more people, "mudslinging" became a popular tactic used. Through "mudslinging", both candidates tried to positively show off their good qualities while at the same time making the other candidate look worse through negative press and criticism. It just goes to show how competition can also bring out the negative qualities of human nature, regardless of the timeframe.
