Southwest Airlines

Today many flights from Southwest Airlines have been delayed due to technical problems with their website, mobile app, and phones.  The company has had to cancel over 450 flight departures due to their system.  This problem is occurring all over the country not just the Dallas-Fort Worth Love Field area.  Southwest is asking the passengers to arrive at the airport two hours ahead and apologizing for all the technical issues.  Some airports are just checking in customers manually until the system is up and running again.
This issue brings to my attention how much we rely on technology.  I think we should always have a back up plan in case our devices are incapable that day, especially big companies that have to support customers everyday.  Technology has caused us to lose personal connection with companies.  Today we can just go online and make a reservation or check in on a kiosk without having to talk with a customer representative.  In the past, without technology it was a more personalized service.  This problem wouldn't have happened in the past because everything would have been done manually.

  1. I do think this could have happened at any point in the past. When reservations for a ticket have to be done face-to-face it was still on a computer and these technical difficulties you speak of could still happen. But this big fiasco is uncalled for, their asking of customers to come two hours before their flight times is kind of crazy.
