Stick it to cancer Katie Schell (flex)

Supporting a Phoenix boy with cancer at least a dozen Phoenix firefighters shaved their heads to help raise money for childhood cancer research. The boy, Ori Wright was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of two and has had two relapses since then. The Phoenix Fire Academy hosted a St. Baldrick's head shaving event with the goal of raising $5,000 for Ori Wright's treatment. The firefighters have taken in Ori as one of their own and consider him to be a part of the family. Ori is scheduled to have a bone marrow transplant November 1st.

Even though Ori's diagnosis is extremely sad, it fills me with so much happiness to see people take such charge in helping a boy who just wants to safe and loved. This right here, to me, is what I consider to be a community of loving people. Some pretty messed up stuff has been happening lately but this gives me a good feeling about the world. I only wish that more people had the commitment and compassion as the firefighters have to helping Ori. This boy deserves the world and these firefighters are to me some of the most caring people I have ever heard of. It's not the first time someone has taken a stand against cancer and I hope it will not the the last. I guess it's all about the perspective of the situation. Ori's diagnosis has obviously not been easy on anyone close to him but it also brought the community of Phoenix together and that right there is beautiful.

  1. I think it's beautiful how people, complete strangers, can change the world even with small actions.

  2. This is so amazing to see how such tragic things can bring communities together in very positive ways! This can be seen many times throughout history where communities come together in support of something unfortunate. This inspires other communities to do the same because positive energy is infectious!

  3. It is great how everybody is so supportive of one another and have such a loving community. Shaving your head is a pretty big decision to make so it is amazing that so many people did it to show their love and support for Ori.

  4. This is an example of how people band together in unity when they face a problem. This is similar to how the americans unified together to rebel against Britain.
