Claudia Anthony "How Bernie Sanders Became a Serious Contender"

Bernie Sanders is one of the Democrats running for the Democratic nomination for the presidential campaign in 2016. He strongly believes that the minimum wage should be raised to $15 so that people will actually be able to live off of it, and that the government needs to do something to ensure that students are not burdened with life long debt. He has nearly matched Hillary Clinton's quarterly fundraising with $s6 million. In order to ensure that he gets the Democratic nomination, he still has to win over many states that are now currently won over by Clinton. Sanders has gained a large following on Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit, showing that many of his supporters are younger voters. There is a debate on Tuesday in which Sanders will be able to show America what his views are on important issues.

It is surprising how large of a following Sanders has gained in the past few months. Although Clinton is still many points ahead of him in the polls, I believe that he has a chance at winning the nomination. I am interested to see how this election turns out and if he can win over states that are currently leaning towards Clinton. Sanders use of social media to gain votes is similar to President Truman who was the first president to broadcast a paid political ad. I think this is a smart way to gain support, because he is able to connect with many young voters.
