Christa Hamby P1 -Georgia's Stone Mountain to be topped by MLK tribute

Georgia's Stone Mountain has been a contentious site and has Confederate symbols. In recent years, the mountain has been the subject of protests. Two years ago, some local residents walked to the top and rang a bell in honor of the "I Have a Dream" speech's 50th anniversary. The place that once hosted Klu Klux Klan cross-burnings will soon be topped with a tribute in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.

The pro-confederacy people are confused. They think that the importance of the confederate history is as important as US history. It isn't. The confederacy stood for slavery, treason and defeat. It doesn't deserve to be remembered at all and certainly not with pride. What the South was and did is shameful and any decent person would know this. I say tear down the Confederate Monument and make it a parking lot. Adding MLK's statue to this site is an insult to MLK and decent people everywhere.

  1. History has its good and bad moments, but why we study history is so we can learn from its mistakes. So I think the history of the confederacy, while evil and twisted and awful, is important. No, it shouldn't be remembered with pride, but it should be remembered nonetheless.
