The Birthday Card | Mica Stout

In 2013, a couple of months before her birthday Bailey sellers father Mike died of stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Before he passed, he prepaid to have flowers sent to his daughter on every year of her birthday. On her 21st birthday was the last and final card, stating that her father would always be there with her, that he didn't want her to shed tears over him anymore, so he would wait to see her in heaven. Now Bailey studies psychology to understand the feeling of depression she went through, and to inform people on making it better.

I chose this article because it was cute, but more importantly shows love and learning. Bailey went through a hard loss at the age of 16, and didn't really know what happened when she was so down. She took her father's situation and made it a learning experience to educate herself and other people on how the mind works when things like this happen.

It relates to history because many of protests that happen are over this built up hatred, and I think that even though you hate someone/ thing, there is an easier way to deal with it. Everyone deserves a chance no matter what they've done, and there's always room to improve on life choices.

  1. This is great! I find it inspiring that she was able to make one of the hardest things in her life into something that could benefit/help others.
