VA failed to report potentially dangerous doctors, GAO finds

The VA, or Veterans Affairs Department has fallen short in ways that put veterans and the public "at risk [of] receiving unsafe medical care," states the GAO(Government Accountability Office).By not reporting potentially ill-equipped doctors until 3 months, up to many years after the incidents take place, many people's lives are at risk. In one instance a doctor's license was not provoked, even after multiple confirmed complaints had been filed for him concerning patient abuse. Instead this doctor was simple transported to a new VA medical center, where he could continue to misuse his position of authority. Companies do not want to publicize or even allow for the removal of one of their staffed doctors, because they don't want to be associated with the negativity that doing so would bring. However, if these lenient policies do not change, our own veterans will continue to be at risk. This article is centered around the effects of an unpunished wrong doing.

This article relates to The Corrupt Bargain in apush, because John Quincy Adams, with the help of his power and control, was unrightfully elected as president, with the bribed help of Henry Clay. And just like in the article, he abused his authority and was never punished for his wrong doing. The lack of consequence in any case allows for the dangerous continuation of misconduct.

  1. I hope that this situation changes soon. I hate how companies in general will not speak out about something bad that has happened to them and tell the truth to the world. They should be honest and more worried about the heath of their customers.

  2. I liked how you related this to the corrupt bargain because you can clearly see the conclusions that you have drawn. They abuse of power is a common theme between both of these situations.

I too like how you related this to the corrupt bargain, because it's easier for us to relate our knowledge to something we have learned. I hope this dreadful situation is corrected soon!
