Current Event- Ellen Whitehead

Ashland County Sherrif's deputy, Brock Mdrjenovich, shot a 14-year old middle schooler, Jason Ike Pero. Jason was said to be holding a knife on the scene, the policies department even received a phone call to 911 with someone expressing their concern for the young man walking around with a knife. When Mdrjenovich checked out the scene and saw Jason, he asked him multiple times to drop his weapon but refused.  Mdrjenovich then shot the teenager claiming that he was making advances toward him. This event is strange because Jason's grandfather states that Jason hated fighting and that he loved spending time with his friends and family. It is crazy to think that someone who is completely normal to you could have all other sorts of stuff going on inside their head. I feel like I see articles like this one pretty often, with a police officer shooting a citizen. I feel like rather than just one police officer that can only defend themselves by shooting, the force should send multiple so they can gain control of the citizen of concern without harming them.

  1. I agree. I feel like cases like this happen all the time, and there seems to be no better way to contain the suspect than by shooting them. I think there needs to be better training and weapons that are less deadly when handling these situations.
