Migrants from west Africa being 'sold in Libyan slave markets' - Heaven-Leigh Pettis

African Migrants being sold in Libyan slave markets

West African migrants are being sold and bought in broad day light. Violence, extortion, and slave labour has all been reported by people passing through Libya but now, the International Organization for Migration says that buying people has become way to normalized and people are being sold for everyone to see. Ever since the overthrow of their leader, Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has turned to violent chaos and migrants with no money or papers. The International Organization for Migration have started to look into the slavery situation in Libya and slavery has been added to a long list of outrages in Libya.
I think that it's terrible that slave trade is going on in Libya and that migrants are being sold just for trying to go to Europe. The slaves are forced to work without pay, meagre rations, and their captures regularly call their families' for ransom. They are held in makeshift private prisons and if someone stays at the prisons for too long and the ransom is not payed then that slave is taken and killed. What's going on in Libya is pure evil and should've been looked into when earlier reports of slave trade were coming in.

  2. My current event article mentioned this, it is so horrible that the slave system is still in place in some countries, and it lasted long enough in the US.
