Current Event- Ellen Whitehead

Recently in England and East Asia, Scarlet Fever is occurring. This disease was a common killer in the 19 th century and it is reoccurring as there were nearly 20,000 cases reported in the United Kingdom last year. Scarlet fever is highly contagious and caused by the same bacteria behind strep throat. This disease has gone down every year except for this last, and the numbers are continuing to rise. It has nearly doubled since 2013. Scarlet fever is common for kids under the age of 10 and mainly spreads through coughing and sneezing. There are many signs of this disease, such as fever over 101 and headaches. Scarlet fever is cured the same way as strep throat, antibiotics, but if a child goes without care, it can lead to death. It is a mystery why this disease is reoccurring in higher numbers when they should be getting lower. I hope that the doctors can find out what's going on and spread awareness so everyone can be treated.

  1. This is terrible, but with medical intervention, doctors should be able to eradicate this disease easily.
