Today, the trump administration publicly abandoned support for Obama's executive initiative to protect the wellbeing and rights of transgender students across america. Citing "Legal Confusion" for this decision, the white house has now taken a firm stance in believing that matters such as these should be "left up to the states." This has the potential to be devastating to many trans kids living in hostile rural communities. It is one thing to go after adults who can defend their rights, but specifically going after children is absolutely disgusting to say the least. I am sure that this will not be the last we here of Trumps anti-lgbt policies going forward.
The argument of, "states rights" has always been at the opposition to civil rights. Take for instance slavery, segregation, or more recently, marriage equality. When will we notice that our own history is quite literally repeating itself before our very eyes.
