Matthew Zapata - The Oscars

The Oscars. The award show that everybody in the film industry looks forward to. The night of turning points and memories. Last night, audiences from all over the world tuned in to see the show but little did they know it would end in a shocking mix up. The oscars were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who did a fantastic job keeping the show lively and energetic. The night was filled with memorable wins and losses but the most memorable event of the night happened during the last minutes of the show. The biggest award of the night (best picture) was being presented by Warren Beaty and Faye Dunaway. Having a little trouble saying who the winner was, they finally announced that La La Land had won the award. The La La Land team came up to the stage, speeches were made, Thank yous were given and then something happened. While people gave their speeches you could see a lot of commotion in the background and then it was soon announced by the producer of La La Land that they didn't win and it was intact Moonlight! Personally I was speechless not just because I'm a huge La La Land fan but because of the situation itself. Who knew such a big mistake would be taken on the stage of one of the most prestigious award shows ever. Although I'm upset La La Land didn't win I'm glad the award went to Moonlight out of all of the other nominees. The oscars, besides the huge mix up at the end, was a night filled with iconic achievements for individuals, especially marginalized people, which made the night even more memorable.
