Linnea Soderlund: Swedish riots after Trump comments

Summary: Due to some of Donald Trump's most recent false comments, great violence sprung out in a Swedish suburb Monday night. In a town north of Stockholm, the country's capital, a drug arrest was made which led to youth upset and gathering in this predominantly immigrant area. Fueled by the arrest and Trump's claims that recent refugee immigration had caused a rise in crime and violence in countries like Sweden. This riot somewhat proved his point while trying to argue against it. These riots destroyed storefronts and cars. While the immigration has led to challenges that the government has been hesitant to address, the refugees in no way started these problems, and they are not responsible for the majority of crime like Trump had implied.

Analysis: This story really hit me hard because I think of Sweden as more of a home than America. It's hard to hear that they are struggling with some of the same issues as we are here and that they are so influenced by Trump and his false accusations and hate.

Synthesis: I can point to anything Trump has said or done and the negative impact it has had on America and the rest of the world, but I'm gonna leave that one up to you.

  1. Trump has already decreased good foreign relations and it's scary what his next steps are to isolating America.
