Seanelle Higgins: Sexual Assault at Nursing Homes

Summary: Many of the inhabitants of nursing homes are unable to speak or function on their own,  but instead of being then care of, they are being sexually assaulted. The article states that there is no possible way to know how many victims there are because these cases are largely unreported. Surprisingly, the nursing homes are doing hardly anything to stop these incidents from happening,  neither are government officials. Nursing homes are extremely slow with reporting and reluctant to believe the accusations.  The families and the victims are failed at every turn.

Analysis: I think this is a horrifying story and really,  really sad. These old people are innocent victims who are targeted because of their vulnerability.  They are more prone to speech problems and memory loss,  so accounting a consistent story over and over by memory is a difficult task,  one that is crucial in the justice system when it comes to rape charges. I hope that this article brings attention to these poor people.  They deserve to have their stories told and their attackers put away for a very long time.
