White House blocks news organizations from attending press briefing - Ethan Lacey

The New York Times, CNN, LA Times, Politico, Buzzfeed, BBC, were one of the many news organizations blocked from an off camera press briefing in the White House. When reporters attempted to go in the briefing, they were told that they were not on the list of attendees. NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox News were one of the few hand-picked organizations allowed in on Thursday morning. Spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said the White House "had the pool there so everyone would be represented and get an update from us today." Time Magazine, The Associated Press, and US Today all boycotted the meeting in response in to how the situation was handled. The White House Correspondents Association also protested the move by the Trump administration.

I believe this type of move from the Trump administration should be very scary to the American public. The administration is filtering what news outlets give the news to the American people and ultimately are filtering what the public knows and doesn't know about what is happening in the White House. This act should be reviewed for violation of the first amendment, and should not be accepted by the American public. This form of censorship is unheard of and is the first step into a dictatorship, which is everything against the freedom and democracy that America is known for. This can be connected to the Office of Censorship that was active during WWII to censor what the public knew and didn't know during the war.
