Mikenzie Moon, "Eight people flee U.S. border patrol to seek asylum in Canada"

Summary: In Champlain New York there were eight asylums seeking refuge in Canada. They were all from Sudan and had lived in Delaware for two years. One of the man said, "nobody cares about us." They were living in the U.S. illegally and as laws have been tightening so they made a run for Canada as asylum. They barely made it pass the U.S. border patrol and had to leave their luggage but they still made it to Canada. Even if they are caught they can make a claim in Canada.

Analysis/Synthesis: I found this article interesting because I thought the U.S. could still intervene when they cross the border but it looks like its Canada's control. Many people often joke that their escaping to Canada after this election and everything happening in our country, but its a real thing on a bigger level. This can synthesize in purpose to the underground railroad to Canada because the intension is the same. Its also interesting because U.S. has always thought to be the place for refugees, because we are the land of the free but now Canada is the best place for refugees.

  1. This is the effect of already having Donald Trump as president for not even a couple months. He is creating hate and making people feel terrified for their safety and freedom.
