Lilly Anthony- US public schools take steps to protect undocumented students

Summary: Public schools in Chicago have began to deny any federal immigrant agents access to their schools without a warrant. Also districts in Pennsylvania and California have stepped up to help with immigrants who fear of an further process Trump might make in using immigration officers at borders. The chicago public schools have set up guidelines to help with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. After the arrest of 700 immigrants, DHS memos hope to explain what Trump’s plans are. Schools showed that attendance for students had decreased, and they hope to make school a safe place, or home for students. Many other U.S schools have also pledged to protect any undocumented immigrants.

Analysis: The topic of what Trump is planning to do for immigrants is a common thing mentioned in other articles along with this one. This article specifically focuses on the concerns of undocumented students and how this affects their schools. It’s important for those who haven’t been affected by this to realize how many millions of people this impacts in our country. In U.S history, The Chinese Exclusion Act is an example of how immigrants were limited in entering the U.S. during this time along with a rise of nativist sentiments in the U.S.
