The 13 year old black-maned lion Cecil was a popular attraction and collared for an Oxford university research project, yet that was not enough to protect him from the dentist and trophy hunter Walter Palmner. He's been prosecuted as the lion's killing sparked outrage for trophy hunting, and many have called for heavy punishment. But Zimbabwe has said that no charges will be pressed as Palmer had all his papers were in order, and he wasn't committing any offense.
While its very frustrating that he will face no charges, it will at least serve the purpose of rallying more and more people against trophy hunting. Trophy Hunting is an abhorrence, its in our nature to hunt, but there's nothing natural about killing for fun.

I am very against hunting for sport, but a lot of people do it. It is disapointing that he won't face any charges, but he is facing a lot of criticism for his actions as anone who hunts for sport. -Lia K
ReplyDeletei am also against killing for sport, i understand stand that this technically was a legal kill so there is nothing we can do in terms of legal punishment, but this man should have had his hunting license and rights taken away, i am glad that people are speaking out about this.

I'm also against killing as a sport, I believe animals should be treated with the same respect that we receive. Hunting for a sport is just appalling since innocent animals are being killed for no reason just to shoot.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you!!! Trophy hunting is messed up and killing animals should never be about sport. Especially because in this case it was an animal species that is protected by law; it's sad that no charges were given, but at least it did draw attention to the issue
