"The Right To Die" -Aleah Washington 1st period

Brittany Manyard started an online campaign that pushes for the right to determine your death. She was tired of seeing people suffer through stage 4cancer and any other life threatening diseases. She explains that wealthier people can afford to pay for expensive deadly medicines from there doctors that eases their pain the closer they get to death. She too was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and states, "I was left to reflect on what I would want in the face of my own death." The right to die could fit in the constitution as an amendment because it protects the right of the people.

In some ways this is a positive effect because instead of going through a long painful death, some people can speed up the process. This is a negative effect because what if the person can survive, but hasn't changed there mind because they still want to die. The point is all people should have equal rights and no one should suffer more because they have less money.

  1. I agree that no one should have to suffer more because of their financial state. I think many people include in their will whether or not they wish to be kept alive even when their life depends on a machine. This sounds very similar to the "right to die" topic, but I agree that it should be a personal choice regardless.

I agree with both of yall. this can compare to multiple events in US history when people lost their lives becasue they did not have alot of money. it is really sad that stuff like this is actually happening today.

  3. This is a hard topic because, you're right, the effects are on two ends of the spectrum. On one hand you should be able to make you're own choices as to what you think will help you/ what you need, as you're reaching the end of your life (Dallas Buyers' Club, anyone?) but if you end up making it... what then? I think the decision should be left to the one fighting the illness, but it's still a difficult subject matter. I'm interested to see where this goes.

  4. I think it is a good and bad choice to do this. Yes people have a right to die but what if someone rich can do it for no reason?

  5. I wonder what she is exactly campaigning for. I think the overall idea is great but it could go wrong if it is not implemented well.
