Hurricane Katrina was a devastating event that took place nearly ten years ago. An article was written recently about the Impact of Katrina, and several survivors were interviewed. They were asked what were some changes they noticed between then and now. Many answered with tales of thousands of people living in trailers after the storm and how everyone was kind and helpful to one another. They told of how inspirational the children were in their enthusiasm to return to schools. But, they also described how over time that lovely feeling of community slowly withered away. As the richer people's houses were rebuilt and company back on their feet, they left there poorer brothers in the mud. The survivors told of New Orleans, and how motivated the entire city was to help rebuild their home. These people have a great sense of pride for their city and the rich culture that cannot be drowned out in flood. They all have in common that they look towards the children, the future, and made sure that above all else that they would know that life goes on and things continue to get better all the time, leaving them stronger for it.
Hurricane Katrina in itself has hugely effected American history as it is. Remnants of the destruction and pollution from the flooding are still to this day yet to be restored. But, whilst we still face issues of economical classes that ensure the wealthy's homes and livelihoods are repaired, much good has come from Katrina. Katrina showed America and the world that in times of catastrophy, Americans will band together to survive. Everyday people will prove to be the bravest of heroes. And time can always heal what has been hurt.
