Popular flea market in Canton burns
Canton flea market, located east of Dallas, went up in flames at about 1am Saturday and continued to burn for three hours. It's not clear how much damage the fire had on surrounding buildings, but the flea market is destroyed. The same area was damaged by a fire in November 2013.
The Canton flea market was known for its First Monday Trade Days that have been happening monthly since the 1850's. The flea market is one of the largest and oldest continually operated flea markets in the United States, and has a lot of history within east Texas. The flea market has been passed down from generation to generation and will be missed due to its long line of history and success.

That is really sad that such an important place and historical landmark has just been completely wiped out. I wish things like this didn't have to happen.
ReplyDeleteThis is crazy! Canton is no doubt an attraction to locals and tourists and to think it was in flames is insane!! -Paisley Norburg 5th Period

ReplyDeleteThis is really sad to hear but it is crazy how long this flea market has stayed in existence prior to the fire.
I wonder what started the fire! I hope this event can become an opportunity to renew the beloved flea market instead of it remaining a pile of ash. -Sophie Kurzius (8)
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame. Hopefully another one will be rebuilt in it's place.
