East Coast Flooding-Nicholas Watson, 9th

Summary:
On Sunday 22 million East Coast residents braced for more deadly flooding. The counties of Charleston and Berkeley in South Carolina were warned about devastating flooding also warning citizens to get to higher ground. So far 5 people have lost their lives due to the flooding, for example when a tree fell on an interstate, due to heavy rain, on a car killing the passenger. So far South Carolina highway patrols have responded to 323 collision reports and 100 calls that were waiting on emergency response. According to officials this weekend was a "Once in 500 years" rainfall event. Although things have quieted down, the danger and destruction ids far from over and should be taken seriously.

Analysis:
This major flooding event on the East Coast can be compared to the Johnstown Flood of May, 1889 which killed 2,209 people. Although the destruction and death toll in these two events are considerably different, it goes to show that the East Coast has been known to be in the path of flooding and heavy rainfall. I think when these natural disasters happen we really cant know when these unpredictable events can happen, but we should at least be prepared for these situations in hopes of lowering the death toll and saving more lives.
