On Thursday, nine victims were killed by a shooter named Chris Harper-Mercer at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. Police were called to the scene and two minutes after they arrived, Harper-Mercer committed suicide. Investigators found fourteen firearms that were connected to the shooter. Six were found at the school and eight were found at his apartment. All of the firearms were obtained legally by the shooter and his family members. Investigators discovered that he suffered from mental health issues.
For me, this story exhibits how easy it for people to obtain deadly weapons. Gun control in this country needs to be improved before more innocent people have to lose their lives to people who should never have been able to buy a gun. After the school shooting in Connecticut in 2012 America's gun laws did not change. Hopefully this shooting will help the government to realize that there needs to be a change made to gun control laws.
