Cassidy Jones Reports on Marrying Old, Young

Younis, a 13 year old teenager, has experienced traumatic events within her lifetime even as a young girl. Younis is a victim of young, Kenyan gurls, forced to marry men of older age. These men usually range around 40 or older, female children ranging from 7 and above. As a 9 year old, Younis was forced to marry a man 69 years, more than 7 times her age. This decision is usually finalized by the guardians of the girl, typicaly the father. In this case, Younis' father chose this man, but Younis refused to oblige and was disowned by her family.
This reminds me of bot the forced marriage, but rather the forced reproduction of children between the English colonists and Native American Women during colonization. Although sexual relations between these interracial marriages was purley for positive relationships between Natives and Englishmen and for the conversion of religion to christianity, the forced aspect of relationship shown in both periods of time is mildly related.

  2. I hate how young girls are forced to grow up too quickly without truly enjoying their youth. The fact that the parents agreed to marry their own daughter off to a man who is old enough to be her grandfather is sickening. It's very creepy of older men to have these desires in my opinion, but the reality is that it happens daily. The voices of these kids are drowned out by the fear of their own parents and by society undermining their worth.

  4. It is awful that these young girls are forced to experience these forced marriages. These young girls' childhoods are being stolen from them and it pains me to know that it is their families who are forcing them into this. --Claudia Anthony

  5. I find it awful that the parents are the ones who send their daughters off to marry someone 7 times their age. These young girls are missing out on important moments in life because their parents are forcing them to grow up to quickly. -Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex
