On Saturday, two bombs exploded near the main train station in Ankara, wounding 246 people and killing at least 95. These bombings are now known as the deadliest attack in the Turkish capital. The explosions occurred during a peace march involving the People's Democratic Party. About 14,000 people were in the area and two suicide bombers are suspected to have caused the blasts. A video showed footage of protest banners and flags covering the ground after the attack. The blasts were so powerful that they shook high-rise buildings, and the death toll is expected to climb.
It is so sad to read about yet another bombing at such an unexpected time. There really is no way to prevent or plan for blasts like this one to occur, especially when suicide bombers are involved. These people don't care if they die or if they live and are therefore willing to do anything even if it harms other people or themselves. Because these events happen so unexpectedly, we must always be careful and aware of our surroundings to ensure the safety of ourselves and those around us.
