Tristan Spohn 3rd Period

This monday, people are starting to celebrate Indigenous People's day instead of Columbus Day. In fact, many cities are recognizing the day as Indigenous People's day instead of Columbus Day, in an effort to connect indigenous people's importance to our society.

Analysis: From all of the genocide and terror that spanish conquistadors placed on natives, it is great to give these natives the recognition they deserve. It's apparent as more people become educated about the events that transpired, the more appreciation is placed on native americans. In a previous article I found that famous native american landmarks are also being reverted back to their native names. Essentially America is trying to make up for the terrors it has caused that have stained our history books, and celebrating the natives that found our land is a much more powerful and meaningful thing to celebrate than the massive torture and massacres of innocent peoples.
