steel box living -Julianne Swaykus 6

You wouldn't normally go house hunting and decide a steel box is the perfect fit for you. At Wenckehof in Amsterdam, students are living in 1,000 recycled shipping containers. "Although it was built as a temporary housing experiment, it proved so popular with students it was given permanent status by the Amsterdam authorities in 2011. And its success has intrigued architects and housing organisations looking for low-cost solutions to housing shortages in cities around the world."
This seems like something people would've done during time of need in in the 1700's-1800's. At first the idea sounds crazy, but many people have started living in steel boxes and they say that the "container is cosy: each one has a living space, bathroom and balcony. Insulated panels and radiators help keep the place warm in winter." This is an inventive way to live on a budget and not have to struggle in debt.

  1. This reminds me of the mounds that the Cahokia Indians made! Innovative!

  4. This is so unique and a smart idea! It could also be a very humbling way to live and a reminder to go against our very materialistic society.

  5. That's crazy, in Japan they do stuff like that but it is much nicer. Still, I can't stand the thought of getting out of bed and already being in the kitchen or the bathroom or somthing
